the death of Dieter Aeschelman at the Spanish Grand Prix on the Circuit de Catalunya prompted his replacement by Fernando Alonso. Paul di Resta would've replaced him, but was still injured from a nasty accidental last year. He would, instead, replace the Ferrari test driver when he recovers, which ended up being for the German Grand Prix.
  • Lotus: Jarod Wells replaces Romain Grosjean for one round. Grosjean's injury during the Canadian Grand Prix prevented him from attending the following event, promoting Canadian test driver and brother of Ferdinand, Jarod Wells, to full driver for the weekend.
  • McLaren: Tu Yu → Jenson Button. Former McLaren driver Jenson Buttons stepped in to replace a seriously-injured Tu Yu following a first-lap incident at the German Grand Prix. The Taiwanese, Yu, could not participate in the rest of the season.
