The 2012 Formula One Season was the 63rd Formula One championship, contested over 20 races in 2012, saw defending champion Sebastian Vettel suffering from an unreliable and, unexpectedly, a midfield-worthy car. The season also featured a reshuffling of the lower- and mid-field teams, impacting on driver careers and contract negotiations heavily.
LDespite the early Red Bull domination, Lewis Hamilton and McLaren won the championships. Rookie Marcus Ericsson came in 2nd, 9 points off the lead in his first season for 2010–2011 back markers Marussia. The season also saw upcoming championship contender Romain Grosjean's first victory at Singapore.
